Latest Update from the Environment Agency

Works for the Arundel Tidal Defences Scheme Phase 1 are continuing as planned, with approximately half of the steel sheet piles now installed into the river bed adjacent to the properties at River Road.

We want to assure you that we are continually reviewing government and Public Health England (PHE) advice to guarantee that all those involved with the scheme are operating safely during the Covid-19 Pandemic. There are a number of measures that we have put in place to alter the routine of working arrangements to better allow staff on site to observe this guidance. However, there may be times when an activity requires operators to work closer together in order to carry out their role safely. These situations will be supervised closely to ensure the safety of all those on site and the public.

Forecast for the next week

We are now able to give a better idea of which days the steel sheet piles will be installed, therefore will be the noisier periods. Please see schedule below for the next week:

Thursday 9th April – Jack-up barge moved to prepare for piling to commence after the Easter weekend

Tuesday 14th to Wednesday 15th April – Vibration and percussive piling taking place

Thursday 16th April – Jack-up barge moved to the next section to prepare for piling to commence Tuesday 21st April

We will also be setting up a compound next week in order to start works south of the A27 bridge.

We recognise the impact that the noisy activity is having on your community, neighbours and family and we would like to thank you for your understanding, particularly during this difficult and uncertain time. By doing so, we are able to ensure that distributive activities will be completed at a faster rate.
