Arun District Council are undertaking a consultation on memorials in their cemeteries including ours in Arundel.
Memorials are deeply personal. They reflect love, loss, heritage, and the stories of those who shaped our communities. As custodians of these spaces, Arun District Council want to ensure that their approach to memorials is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all who visit.
This consultation will help:
– Review current guidelines and practices
– Understand what matters most to families and visitors
– Balance personal expression with shared space and long-term care
– Ensure our cemeteries remain places of dignity, beauty, reflection, and accessibility
Arun District Council are also looking closely at how memorials relate to the wider landscape, ensuring safe access for those with mobility difficulties, and protecting habitats that support local wildlife. These spaces serve many purposes: remembrance, quiet reflection, and connection with nature.
The consultation is open until 21st September and can be accessed here : https://tinyurl.com/ms4xswmv…
