It may be useful to clarify the Town Council’s relationship with the Arundel Festival.
The Town Council wishes Arundel to have a great Festival each year, an event that is enjoyed by residents and benefits the town’s businesses.
We would like to see it get better every year and become financially sustainable for the long term through attracting new sponsors. In years when we can do so the Council has given grants to the Festival, although because of financial pressures, we will not be able to do so in 2024.
However, it is important to realise that the Town Council does not control the Festival. Since 2010 the Arundel Festival has been organised by an autonomous company, Arundel Festival Ltd., which is also registered with the Charity Commission. This has been managed by its own directors. The original directors have appointed their own successors over time, and the Town Council has never had the power to appoint or remove trustees/directors.
